Thinking About
Perception
Nettie Bozanich
I’ve been
thinking about perception
lately. What drives
us and what shapes
character is not so much what happens to us but how we perceive what
happens to
us. Perception of
any situation is in
our hands; no one can take it from us.
I’ve been
thinking, too, about how
perception of our lives and situations can change based on whether we
choose to
use a narrow-angled lens or a wide-angled lens to view the world around
us. A narrow-angled
lens causes us to
perceive a world which focuses on only today and on the self. A wide-angled lens helps
us to perceive a
world which is complex and involves more purposes and reasons that our
own.
And when we add God to this
wide-angled
view, we can perceive the world to be in control by the One who knows
everything about yesterday, today & tomorrow.
God helps us to go beyond ourselves and
believe that even though we may not always understand what is happening
that He
is working out His perfect plan in our everyday lives.
Perception is about choice. We can choose how we
interpret what happens
in our lives. When
we choose the
wide-angled lens of God, we can have confidence in Him that everything
is working
together for the good of the Father who loves us.
